Legal fees
Flexibility & Transparency
Lawyers are free to agree hourly rates with their clients. In practice, the lawyer will take into account the complexity of the case and the likely duration of the proceedings. In all cases, the lawyer will, as far as possible, estimate the foreseeable fees in light of your dispute.
However, payment arrangements, such as monthly instalments, are possible.
If you are in a difficult financial situation, you can apply for legal aid from the State, which will cover the lawyer's fees for court proceedings if you meet the eligibility criteria, particularly if you have a low income. In this case, it is advisable to complete one of the application forms below (depending on the area of law) in advance and to collect the required documents so that you can provide them to the lawyer at the first meeting for the remainder of the procedure. The fixed fee for the legal consultation remains payable to the lawyer.
- The principle of legal aid in the Canton of Geneva (French)
- Application form for legal aid in civil or administrative matters (French)
- Application form for legal assistance in criminal matters for the victim of an offence (French)
- Application form for legal assistance in criminal matters for the defendant (Geneva)
Finally, if you have legal expenses insurance, this may cover not only the lawyer's fees but also the legal costs. You should contact your insurance company directly for more information. All these aspects will be discussed with the lawyer before any engagement begins.
If all you require is a simple written legal opinion, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail with your question and request a free quote. You are free to decline without giving any reason.
Finally, if you would prefer to discuss your problem in person, you can also request a simple one-hour fixed-fee legal consultation. To arrange this, please contact the firm or call
